The Nip Nook

Specialist areola tattooing.

Based in South Devon

My name is Amie Leonhardt, a tattoo artist with 10 years experience, based in Torquay, Devon.

After surviving 2 sudden cardiac arrests, I decided I wanted to use my time on this planet to help others. After participating as both a voice and artist in the Mortal and Strong’s Scars of Gold exhibition, I met Lucy Thompson, founder of the Nipple innovation project, a charity working to fund high quality areola tattoos for those who need them. This amazing work inspired me and I knew it was something I needed to learn, so I joined Lucy’s Advanced areola course. - Now I am able to provide these incredible life changing tattoos.

I am currently offering discounted appointments for models while I build up my portfolio for my Nipple Innovation Project application - Please get in touch if you would like to apply!

The process

These specialist tattoos are done over 2 or 3 sessions, depending on how skin reacts. Tissue that has been previously damaged can be much more sensitive to the tattooing process, so we spread the tattoo out to prevent any further damage and anymore scarring. Not only that but it also helps us get the best, most realistic results that you are happy with.

Close-up image of a tattoo that features the phrase 'love yourself' in a circular arrangement around a raised, flesh-colored bump or mole on skin with surrounding redness. The tattoo is upside down in the image, and a purple arrow points to the bump with text that reads 'This is a tattoo!'.
  • First meeting will be to run through the process, allow me to assess your skin and work out the best plan going forward. We will talk about colour/shape options and look at fake tattooed skin examples.

  • During the first session we start by marking out the placement for your areola tattoo, once happy with the placement, it’s time for mixing colours ready for the tattoo.

The tattoo process takes 20-30 minutes per areola. It’s important to note that the tattoo/s will likely look very red and inflamed for up to a week after.

You’ll be given an aftercare pack with instructions, soap and balm to apply once the dressing is removed.

Healing time will vary depending on a variety of factors but we can discuss this at your appointment.

  • The second session will be a little shorter than the first. This time we will be refining the tattoo/s, adding more detail and realism. It also allows me to touch up any areas that may not have taken due to scarring.
